Virgin makes the first move to launch underwater plane, the Necker Nymph

Virgin Mobile magnate, Sir Richard Branson wants always to be the first to launch anything extraordinary, unique and new in the market. Previously it was luxurious trips to outer space and now it is elegant and trendy underwater adventure, the new Necker Nymph aero submarine. This is an aero submarine, designed inspired from the fighter jet technology. The aero-submersible, a carbon-fiber DeepFlight three-person was built with a cost of US$664,000. It has the capability to reach 40 meters deep down the ocean. In addition to all, the environmental impact of Necker Nymph is near-zero. The delicate ecosystem of the ocean is said to remain unaffected by the noise emissions from this submarine.

Graham Hawkes a renowned engineer of US based Hawkes Ocean Technology, designed and built the Necker Nymph. It is said to have an extraordinary experience of underwater flight with the excitement of scuba. It represents a new category of high performance positive buoyancy vehicles. Other usual submarines use ballast in order to sink into water whereas a downward ‘lift’ is used on the wings of the Necker Nymph in order to dive to depth. This open cockpit winged submarine, the Necker Nymph is the first of its kind to strike the market.

This underwater flight, the Necker Nymph is going to take exploration to the next level. First of all it will glide on the surface of the water just like a plane moves on the runway and then the exciting experience begins when one of the three pilots smoothly dive down by operating the joystick. There are lot of unique experiences in the bag like discovering lots of old shipwrecks, flying with the dolphins or spy hopping with whales, just to name a few. The adventure begins and goes deep down the ocean up to 40 meters. The pressure of the slipstream is actually removed by the special ‘wind shields’ and the open cockpit helps occupants to view thorough 360 degree.

Sir Richard Branson has the plans to provide the Necker Nymph to visitors on the Necker Island so that they can enjoy the unique experience of gliding and diving through the ocean. Also you can have it for $25,000 a week and that too when you have spent $88,000 to stay in Necker Belle for seven nights. However, if you are planning for a vacation there, first check out whether she is available for you at that time or not. The delivery of this special ultra lightweight and compact submarine is expected on February 20th of this year.

  1. David Leonhardt Says:

I would much rather the underwater trip than the outer space trip. However, for that kind of money, I might just take a year off and hike around the world.
