First we need to know what is an iPad. In simple words it is something that is between an iPhone and a netbook.

Its size is quite and is light in weight, weighing around 680g. There is no keyboard or mouse and instead it is facilitated with a touchscreen capability, the screen being very bright, though. You can do a lot of things like email, web browsing, photos, movies, music, games, presentations, spreadsheets, word processing and e-books as well.

It does almost all those things that other devices do but they are quite better. It is better than most of the devices available but it is not affordable for most of the people.

Shortcomings of iPads

1. The first reason is that it is neither so competitive to replace the other existing devices with most of the people today nor is it inexpensive enough to be kept as a secondary device. It doesn’t have the capability to replace the smartphones or the laptops.  Its costs high and can’t be justified at all. When compared to a Smartphone, the big difference is that iPads cannot be carried in pockets while smartphones can be. Laptops provide more functionality and are available at the same price or sometimes even less.
2. Web experience is not as the Apple claims it to be. The experience is almost like an iPhone or an iPod touch but less than the desktop standard browsers.
3. The screen resolution is insufficient because it is smaller when compared to the price . You can even get higher screen resolution with laptops at the same price or even less.
4. The iPads provide a little less facility than a big iPhone or iPod touch.
5. Camera is one of the biggest and most useful facilities provided but the iPads lack one. Almost all portable devices are equipped with camera and one cannot think without it.
6. If you want more connectivity you will have to pay more for the service and facility. Otherwise same USB cable is provided with the iPads as offered with other devices of Apple.
7. The virtual keyboard of iPads is not ready for a touch type and you have to almost type on it, which requires a keyboard actually. However when you use smartphones, thumbs are sufficient for the work.
8. Users will have to pay more for the GPS device as well as for monthly service that they provide.
9. In fact, iPads are not updated but you will feel that the facilities are rather taking you a decade backwards. It seems you are working with software development systems of the last century.

In fact the Apple iPad could have been the next best thing as was expected at its launch but it has received lot of criticism before it could make some remarkable business. It looks and feels good but is not facilitated or updated and users do not find it worth the cost.
