Why Google decided to fix the Checkout Bug released for customer data?

Do you like this story?

Google, the big name too could not avoid itself from landing it into a situation that created troubles for its Checkout users. Recently, Google got affected by a bug that existed in its Checkout software. This bug was troublesome for the customers as it exposed their phone numbers to the merchants. This bug made customers in more than two dozen countries suffer; a value-added tax was also charged for the most parts of Europe and Asia. Bug has been fixed now and the customers are breathing a sigh of relief.

A Google spokesman threw more lights on the issue and revealed what actually happened. According to him, there was a bug in the Google Checkout merchant center and API which clearly means that the merchants selling digital goods would have actually had access for the phone numbers of the buyers that existed there. Google spokesman further informed that personal information such as phone numbers is normally provided only in situations where users are buying physical goods.

It was further emphasized that the problem at the merchant center was fixed and Google is also involved in rolling out a fix to API in the next few days. Google has apologized to the ones who have been impacted by this issue and pleads for the patience and co-operation from the customers as Google is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Checkout Bug that was released for customer data mistakenly categorized digital goods into physical goods and this gave rise to the difficulty faced by the customers. It required the buyers to provide personal information to the merchant for shipping purposes – such as a phone number! Earlier, we have seen how Google’s advertising and marketing policies were designed to ensure that the searchers get the best quality results and enjoy the most out of their shopping.

Google has fixed the Checkout Bug but if the resources are to be believed, this has not been done completely and the customers need to be cautious in the near future. Google is still working on the problem that lasted for about a month. Google’s checkout bug has affected Google checkout users in many areas. Germany, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Australia, Japan, Russian federation, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Italy, Singapore, Israel, Denmark, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, France, Belgium, Mexico, Argentina, Taiwan, India, Brazil, Czech Republic and Poland are some of the states where Google checkout users have been affected.

In near future, Google intends to come up with new and secure solutions that would prevent any loss of information to the hackers that can cause prospective harms. After Google is believed to have fixed the checkout bug that created troubles for its users more or less, Google is expected to arm itself with privacy solutions that can fix any upcoming issue sooner than they did this time.

Since Google’s approach on Bug Checks and solutions represent Google’s capability to fight reasons behind inconvenience caused to customers in cyberspace, it’s evident that Google will prepare necessary backups and take better precautions next time!
